Citrine is a member of the quartz family and is most closely related to amethyst, and sometimes amethyst and citrine can be found in the same stone, called Ametrine. Citrine’s colors come from iron inclusions and the more iron content found in the stone, the richer the color.
In addition to being the birthstone for November birthdays, citrine is also traditionally used to celebrate 13th wedding anniversaries.
